At around seven years old, whilst acting 'cute' for a French yoghurt commercial, Lara decided she would probably quite like to conquer the world as a writer/director/producer and once she was a reasonable age, she started to carve out an interesting, but totally convoluted path around the entire media and entertainment industry.
After working in Art Departments and Costume Design for various TV and theatre companies, Lara then moved into Production for a few years at BBC Scotland in Glasgow. Here, she spent the majority of her time working on numerous projects with the Drama and Comedy departments, before being cajoled back in front of the camera. Quite a number of years passed as an actress, presenter and voiceover artist and, whilst adding to her writing portfolio & making the odd foray into graphic design and marketing, Lara was also thrilled to perfect her cocktail bar and waitressing skills. Lara has written many short screenplays, short stories, features, TV format outlines, poetry and completed her first novel.
In 2008, Lara storyboarded, produced, directed and ‘everythinged’ an experimental short entitled, “three”, and she immediately knew this had brought her back in line with her original life-plan. Very soon after that, Lara was shortlisted for Screen East's Digital Shorts Scheme; wrote, narrated and directed a promo trailer for a reality TV format show and feature documentary, and then as Writer/Director/Producer, moved straight into pre-production on two shorts, "Hostile" and "Runner", to be shot in two consecutive days, and each with two different edits. Both are now on the International Festival and Competition circuit.
As well as developing “0110”, Lara is Producing J.K. Amalou’s feature film (untitled), the principal photography for which is due to commence soon; she will also be Producing two short films for two directors, regularly reaching for her own director’s hat for a long term corporate film/outreach project and overseeing the continuing development of the multi-platform reality TV/feature documentary project, “Tweet the Dice”.
