Helen Smith writes novels, children’s books, poetry, plays and screenplays.

She was one of the winning writers in a new writing festival with her first radio play, “Looking for Baby Jesus”, broadcast in 1993.

Since then she has published two novels, “Alison Wonderland” and “Being Light”, and two children’s books, and has been commissioned by the BBC to write an original series based on the novels.  Her first full-length stage play, “The Psychic Detective”, toured the UK in 2007.  A specially-commissioned short play, “Purple, Silver, Olive, Orange”, was showcased at The Arcola in London in 2009.

Helen volunteers as a writing mentor with the Write to Life group at the Medical Foundation for the Victims of Torture and contributes occasional articles and reviews to national magazines.  She has recently finished writing a new novel.
